Our history

Over the years, we have turned challenges into milestones and projects into experience and excellence.

This is how we continue to build the future, with the same determination that has been with us since day one.

1993
1993

Confrasilvas S.A. was founded to bring added value to the building and civil engineering market. Innovative formwork solutions: development, supply and erection.

This milestone marks the company’s formal start of trading.

A turning point in our history, with our involvement in the landmark Forum Aveiro project. It was a milestone in the company’s growth, consolidating its position in the Portuguese market.

2002
2002

The Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica posed a major technical challenge, and Confrasilvas S.A. stood out for delivering reinforced concrete structures and erecting innovative formwork systems. This further strengthened the company’s reputation for large-scale projects.

2005
2005

We were one of the first companies specialising in the supply and erection of integrated formwork solutions to set up a dedicated Safety and Environment Department. The company adapted and developed its internal organisation to respond to new trends and requirements in the building and civil engineering market.

Our international expansion began with operations in Angola.

We began operating in Romania and founded the Confrasilvas Group.

The company delivered a number of projects in Spain, strengthening its European presence.

2011
2011

We obtained our Quality, Environment and Safety certification, which set us apart from the other players in the market and made us pioneers in the sector.

We expanded into South America, opening our first branch office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

We strengthened our presence in Africa, beginning operations in Mozambique.

2012

We expanded into Asia, delivering our first projects in Georgia.

We grew our business in Europe, delivering projects in Germany and France.

2015
2015

We expanded into the United Kingdom and Ghana, signing our first contract in the British market and starting production in Africa. This international growth was driven by the trust of long-standing clients, who once again turned to the Confrasilvas Group to deliver their projects.

2016
2016

The Confrasilvas Group adjusted its operations to the contraction in the African and South American markets, while strengthening its presence in the European markets. Over these years, the Group redeployed its people and physical assets in line with the new reality in each of these markets.

The Confrasilvas Group’s activity grew in the European markets, accompanied by a significant contraction in the African markets.

Work started on the Prata Riverside Village project. On this prestigious development, we stood out for delivering the concrete structures and erecting high-precision formwork solutions, contributing to the urban regeneration of the city’s riverfront.

2020
2020

It was a year defined by the pandemic. Even so, activity levels in Europe, and particularly in Portugal, exceeded those recorded the previous year. In South America, growth in activity was particularly notable in São Paulo. In Africa, activity fell sharply across all markets.

2021
2021

A year defined by the recovery in activity levels following COVID-19.

2022
2022

We operated against a backdrop of high inflation and interest rate rises by the Central Bank.

2023
2023

In Europe, 2023 and 2024 were defined by the impact of the war in Ukraine. This had a negative impact on activity in Central Europe. Bucking that trend, markets such as Portugal, Gibraltar and Romania saw activity grow. The same was true in Brazil and Angola, although these markets were heavily affected by the depreciation of their respective currencies.

Three decades of innovation, excellence and recognition in the sector, strengthening the company’s reputation for reliability and quality on complex, demanding projects.
